Trauma therapist Leah Sauls: A passion for people, pets and helping others.

This is the third of our new blog series with profiles of each of our marvelous Sanctuary Christian Counseling therapists. We will run one every other Wednesday until we hit all of us ... so stay tuned!

This week we are featuring our newest therapist, Leah Sauls, LPC, one of our full-time in-person and online trauma therapists. Let's let her speak for herself ...

Question: Why did you become a therapist?

I became a therapist because I had a passion to help others. I became fascinated with mental health when I worked at Southwestern Mental Health Institute in Marion, Virginia. I loved listening to the patient’s stories about their lives and what they had been through, and then I knew what God wanted me to do. I remember a professor at Liberty shared that we, like Jesus, are supposed to sit with others like the Samaritan woman at the well. That's always been an inspiration for me.

Leah loves to help people get healthy!

Question: What kind of therapy do you love to do?

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the states of Virginia and Pennsylvania. I am certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, Parent Child Interactional Therapy, and Juvenile Restoration Competency. I am trained in EMDR and Dialectal Behavior Therapy, which are excellent trauma treatments. I enjoy providing both in person and virtual sessions.

Question: Who do you primarily help?

I work with adolescents, adults and couples.

Question: What interests do you have both in the therapy world and outside it?

I love working with those who have trauma, depression and anxiety. I am fascinated with the brain and the whole body concept of healing. Helping others find the best path for their life is rewarding. I encourage those that I work with to develop and utilize healthy coping skills.

Question: Tell us a little about you, personally ...

I am a wife and mother of one son. We have 6 dogs (littles) and 1 cat. I enjoy hiking and being outdoors as well as playing with my many pets. I also love to cook and take pictures. I am a work in progress in God’s eyes and I love to learn. I love music and dancing. I also sing but am shy about it. I love to help others!

Question: Is there anything else you’d like our readers to know about you?

I collect rocks, sharks teeth and other treasures.
